Underwater City Generator

 

Who lives there ?

1. Vampires, seeking relief from the surface sun. No need to breathe : they are dead, remember ?
2. Crab and lobster people. They are working on reversed diving-suits that would help them conquer the surface.
3. A sleeping elder god and its faithful cultists. Of course, its awakening is getting closer and closer.
4. Water Giants, and their shark pets. Food is getting scarcer and scarcer and they plan to come and get it on the surface..
5. Wood elves. They protect a magic seed that will allow to reforest the surface land.
6. Highly dangerous prisonners and their guardians. An insurrection is coming.

What's around the city ?

1. A field of precious coral. The inhabitants sell it to finance the maintenance of the city.
2. Ghosts of drowned sailors. They are convinced the citizens are responsible for their tragic fate.
3. A terrible kraken. The inhabitants possess a secret that had allowed them to repel him. Until now...
4. The emperor's army in magical bubbles that allow them to breathe. They lay siege to the city.
5. Mind controlling anemones. They are the ones pulling the strings in the city.
6. Magmatic pipes. They provide relatively safe energy to the town.

What's on the surface ?

1. A huge gathering storm. Some says the inhabitants are responsible for it.
2. An arid desert. The city is located in an oasis.
3. Techno-hell. This body of water is the only place in the area where life still exists.
4. Ice floe. It acts as a barricade protecting the inhabitants.
5. A peaceful village. It suffers from the exactions of the city denizens.
6. An old monastery. The priests are watchmen and diplomats, monitoring and interacting with the inhabitants of the city. 

To create my generators, I take a lot of inspiration from books like Tome of Adventure Design, Artifices Deceptions and Dilemnas or the Monster Overhaul. You should really take a look if you are into world building. Also here's a GREAT submarine adventure by the Merciless Merchants : Ascent of the Leviathan.

A night at the theatre.

What will happen at the theatre ? Roll one, two or three d6s and combine to discover !

What's on stage ?

1. A troupe of sad ghosts who dance and sing on stage, captivating audiences with their otherworldly beauty. Some ghosts belong to members of previous audiences...
2. The Stormchasers, a band of adventurers who are forced to make ends meet by re-enacting their glorious adventures. Of course, in real life these were always a failure.
3. A play mocking the local tyrant in a barely disguised way. This does not seem to please the police... 
4. A rather hot piece with rather naked actors. It seems to have an effect on the audience...
5. A very boring monologue about the daily life of a poor farmer. The audience begins to yawn uncontrollably.
6. A convict is dragged by force to a guillotine. He screams that this is not a play and begs for help.

Who's in the audience ?

1. A totally offbeat group of theater-loving druids. They're ranting about the lack of natural elements on stage.
2. Mysterious hooded halflings. They are not paying attention to the play and are selling suspicious bottles to an old bearded man.
3. A stunning but stinking young woman. A circle of natural emptiness is created around her as the audience keeps its distance.
4. A bunch of small time punks. They bother the good people, but are easily impressed by physical demonstrations of violence.
5. A grieving widow. She has come to change her mind but can't stop crying. Loudly.
6. Police in disguise. They are looking for a dangerous murderer.

Complication.

1. The sewers under the theater start to overflow.
2. Black portals appear under random seats, making people disappear.
3. A nobleman's cloak got caught in a torch, and now the theater is ablaze !
4. Seven hungry boars burst into the room and attack anyone with food.
5. The audience is taken by terrible headaches. Some of its members start to bleed from the ears.
6. A member of the audience suddenly stands up and proclaims himself the reincarnation of God. A cult quickly forms around him, declaring all others heretics and condemning them to death.
